Play The Game 2009

Play the Game aims to strengthen the basic ethical values of sport and encourage democracy, transparency and freedom of expression in world sport. Play the Game is an independent institution funded by the Danish Ministry of Culture, the Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations (DGI) and the Danish Federation of Company Sports (DFIF). Our offices are located at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark.

On the 8th June we were asked by Steve Dawkins to be involved in Play the Game. we would be working with students from journalism providing video footage of the conference and adding video to their stories. This was a great experience for us as it was towards the journalism side of media which i have never step foot upon before, so i couldnt wait to start.

We were briefed before the conference to make sure we find the big stories as there will be people from all over the world coming to Coventry. we were working alongside John Mair a Journalism Teacher at Coventry University along with his students. All together we had a great team to go find the stories we wanted.

once inside the conference we had our first obstacle which was the language barrier as people from russia, Denmark, germany and even brazil had come to share their thoughts on drugs in sport. to tackle this problem the only thing we could do is make the questions we asked easy to understand and make sure we briefed them before we started shooting to see if we could use them. surprisingly everyone at the conference spoke very good English so all the interviews went very well.

What i enjoyed about the whole conference was that it was a great experience in the field of journalism and a great experience in the field of media production as we were filming for 2 hours and quickly editing in the press up to get it onto the CUTODAY website http://cutoday.wordpress.com/ , so working under pressure really brought out my skills in editing and filming, which has prepared me for future projects.

To get an insight in what we created for the conference he are a selection of videos we created.

Jens Sejer Anderson – The event organiser of play the game 2009

Michael Franzese – Former Mob Boss/Motivational Speaker

Nikki Dryden – Olympic Gold Medal Winner/Lawyer

Greg Lemond – Former Tour de France Winner

All these videos we made i am very proud of. One video which stands out above the rest was Greg Lemonds video as we had celebrity status when Lance Armstrong another Tour de France winner, commented on the video through twitter suggested that Greg Lemond was a liar. so this was great for us because we didnt expect it to reach celebrities, so this made our footage reach well over the 2000 hit mark which was impressive to the university. you can read more on this at http://cutoday.wordpress.com/2009/06/12/play-the-game-gets-celebrity-status/

if this opportunity comes up again i will defiantly take it up as it was a great learning curve and a great way to meet different contacts, and i am a privileged to take part in it.
